Woodbine Racetrack
Woodbine Racetrack is a thoroughbred and harness racing facility in Rexdale, Ontario, Canada that has three tracks. It is widely acknowledged as Canada's premier horse racing track.
Woodbine is home to two of the three gems in Canada's Triple Crown. The Queen's Plate, the oldest continuously run stakes race, and the Breeders' Stakes, the third gem, are both run at Woodbine. The middle stakes race is the Prince of Wales Stakes which is run at Fort Erie Race Track.
Other famous races held at Woodbine include the ATTO Mile; the Canadian International and the North America Cup for standardbreds.
The first thoroughbred race was held at Woodbine on June 12, 1956 while the first harness race was held on January 1, 1994. Attendance-wise, the largest ever recorded for thoroughbred racing was 42,243 and 7,266 for harness racing.
Woodbine has a total seating capacity of 13,000 and a stabling capacity of 1,860 stalls.
Harness racing at Woodbine Racetrack was officially discontinued in 2018 as part of a major redevelopment of the facility. Since then, the venue has focused exclusively on thoroughbred racing, further strengthening its reputation as Canada’s premier thoroughbred racing destination.

Woodbine History
1874
- The original Woodbine race track opened on the then-far eastern outskirts of Toronto.
1956
- On June 12, the new Woodbine track opened to thoroughbred racing.
1994
- On January 1, Woodbine track welcomed harness racing.
2000
- Slot machines were introduced at Woodbine track.
2016
- Woodbine Racetrack upgraded its racing surface to Tapeta, a modern synthetic material designed to provide safer and more consistent racing conditions.
2024
- Additional safety measures and track improvements were introduced to enhance horse welfare and overall racing standards.
2025
- Woodbine marked its 70th season of thoroughbred racing, featuring a full schedule of race dates, continued facility upgrades, and increased international recognition with the E. P. Taylor Stakes joining the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series.
